Boat Trip on Lough Key Co. Roscommon
Excursion will begin with a one-hour cruiser trip for the entire group,
with commentary, seeing all the sights on the lake (cost € 10
per person); after which we can hire lake boats to explore Castle
Island and other islands (hire of boat for 5 persons
will cost € 20 per boat). We will complete the tour with a visit
to Cloontykilla Castle on the eastern shore of the lake.
Fee for excursion € 10.00 per person (does not include cost of
cruiser trip and boat hire).
Meet at the Cafe in Lough Key Forest Park at 1:00 p.m.

Walk along old Sligo Cavan Railway
line
Outing led by Paddy Corrigan and Jim Deegan (member of the Board of
the National Transport Authority). We will visit the former railway
stations at Float bridge and Ballywillan, both of which are in a good
state of preservation. This is the line
along which Michael Collins is reputed to have travelled when visiting
Kitty Kiernan!
Fee for An Taisce members € 5.00; non-members € 15.00 (children
free). Membership available on the day.

Joint Excursion with the County
Meath Association of An Taisce
to Kilbixy and Tristernagh
Meet at Mount Dalton House, at 1:00 p.m., off the Mullingar-Ballymahon
Road, beyond Rathconrath. At Kilbixy is a 7th century monastery and
the 19th century Malone mausoleum. Tristernagh is a ruined 14th century
Augustinian priory, and at
nearby Templecross is a medieval parish church and the Sir Richard
Piers inscription.

AGM of the Westmeath Association
of An Taisce
In the Aidan Heavey Library, Athlone Civic Centre, Church Street,
Athlone
The AGM will be followed by a guided tour of Athlone accompanied by
local historian Donal OBrien. Everyone welcome.
Fee of € 10.00 per adult (children free) for the excursion.
Formal notice of the AGM will be sent in August to all paid-up members
of the County Westmeath Association.

Eanna
Ní Lamhna, from RTE Radio 1 "Mooney Goes Wild"
6pm Wildlife tour in Tullynally Gardens with Eanna Ní Lamhna
and Thomas Pakenham
7pm Picnicking in gardens or under cover if inclement weather.
8pm "We get the environment we deserve".
Illustrated talk by Eanna Ní Lamhna.This is a special fundraising
event for An Taisce taking place in Tullynally Castle, courtesy of
Thomas and Valerie Pakenham.
Tickets are €15 per adult which includes free admission to Tullynally
Gardens from 6pm (usual cost €6). Bring your own picnic. Everybody
welcome. Children admitted free. Contact John Harnett or Aidan Walsh.

Boat Outing, Lough Lene, Collinstown, County
Westmeath
A waterborne outing on this Blue Flag lake, transported the Lough
Lene Angling Association, weather permitting. We will picnic (bring
your own) at our rendezvous (cover and tables provided) and then take
to the "gin clear" water to view Turgesius' Island before
visiting the Cross Rocks where the lake waters disappear into sinkholes
under limestone formations. We will then visit Winters Point natural
woodland and a gothic folly on Madams Island. Courtesy of Liam and
Maureen O'Flanagan, we are then invited to tea at Lough Park House.
Capacity is limited to 20 people, so book early - booking deadline
31 June.
Members only. Cost €20 per person. Please bring your own buoyancy
aid.
If you have a boat of your own, please join our flotilla; cost €10.00
per person.

Custume Barracks, Athlone
By special permission of Brigadier General Gerry Hegarty, we will
be visiting Custume Barracks in Athlone to see the historic buildings
of 1700 and later, all of national importance. Tea afterwards in the
Army mess, courtesy of the Army. Cost €10.00 per adult; children

"Home" a film by Yann Arthus-Bertrand
Tullynally Castle, courtesy of Thomas and Valerie Pakenham. Cost €10.00
for adults; children free.
Home is a highly regarded 2009 film almost entirely composed of aerial
shots of the Earth. It shows the diversity of life on Earth and how
humanity is threatening the ecological balance of the planet. Opening
in 181 countries, the film broke the world record for the largest
film release in history.
